Gabbroic Clay is a Bronze age clay found on the Lizard in Cornwall. The clay used to create the textures in this piece was dug from a seam found at Church Cove in the same region, in my college days back in 2001/2. In order to use the clay in pottery it needs to be soaked and sieved a few times to get rid of the heavy particles within it. For the purposes of casting of course, the textures are great in creating a rough, stone-like surface. The pendant is made from Brass and comes on an 18 inch (46cm) 1.7mm Belcher chain. The pendant itself measures 4.5cm(1.75") x 2.5cm(1"). Due to the nature of casting, this is a one-off piece. This pendant was inspired by a Victorian metal chain I found many years ago whilst mudlarking and searching the shores in Newlyn, Cornwall. This chain is the inspiration behind all the similar pendants in this series. It was produced using the Sand Casting method with a wax mould I formed by hand. It is a simple, unfussy piece that looks great for everyday use and evening wear, on a chain or a cord. As with all my pieces, they will not be highly polished and the silver will tarnish over time, but in my view this is a bonus.

  • With most of my pieces I do not aim to produce highly polished creations. The Brass will tarnish over time, but if this is not a look you like there is lots of information available on  'at home' methods for cleaning, much of which can be found in your kitchen cupboards, or alternatively a ready made solution can be purchased.
