Organic, natural, cast jewellery

Much of the work here is produced using two methods; Sand Casting and Lost Wax Casting.

The Sand Casting method begins with making a mould which I create either using a wax form I have modelled or an already formed object. The mould is then set into a sand/clay mixture which allows the object to form a cavity once it is removed. The chosen metal is heated until molten then poured into the mould. The mould is then pulled apart and the cast object removed.

Sand Casting is widely known as being one of the oldest methods of casting. And due to the nature of the material used to cast the objects, amazing , organic textures can be achieved.

Lost Wax Casting is also an incredibly old method of casting jewellery. The process involves a sprueing system, where the chosen models and moulds are set up in a wax form.

This is a technique I outsource as I do not have the necessary equipment to carry out the process. The animal and bird bones are made with this process as are my 'found object' pieces. Once a mould has been made of the original, multiples can then be produced, all exactly the same, unlike the sand casting process, where examples will be one off's or slightly varied.  All of the jewellery is gender neutral.
